“44 million jobs could also be created if the Internet penetration rate reached 75%”

(Cio Mag) – The breakthrough of digital technology in Africa augurs a bright future. According to a study by the International Network of High Impact Entrepreneurs, 44 million jobs could be created if the Internet penetration rate in Africa reaches 75%, and 3 million jobs will be created by marketplaces by 2025 .

Growth that would be driven in part by startups. According to the same source, investments in startups operating on the continent increased 18 times between 2015 and 2021. Between 2020 and 2021, these investments grew twice as fast as the global average. In addition, the study specifies that even if the prospects are bright, for the moment, only Nigeria, South Africa, Egypt and Kenya monopolize 51% of all mobile phone subscriptions on the continent, 50% of software developers and 73% of startup accelerators.

This should not prevent real impact on the economy. The study speaks of GDP per capita expected to increase by 2.5% for every 10% increase in mobile phone penetration, and by 1.9% for every 10% increase in digitization.
