Performance and temperatures quite correct for this model occupying only two slots. On the other hand, noise pollution is present, with a turbine spinning at more than 5000 rpm. Now, it is very unlikely that NVIDIA will allow the marketing of such a model.
The GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition is an imposing graphics card: it measures 30.5 x 13 x 6 cm, weighs 2.75 kg and occupies three slots; most custom models are even more massive – like the the Asus TUF RTX 4090 OC and its 2.4 kg – and occupy 3.5 or 4 slots. Nothing abnormal, these massive cooling systems are often welcome to keep the AD102 GPU and its default 450 watt TGP cool without too much nuisance. A Reddit user, however, got his hands on a GeForce RTX 4090 blower from a mysterious Japanese retailer. This takes up only two slots.
As you can see from the pictures provided by the owner, this card bears no logo betraying its designer. We can simply read “GeForce RTX” as well as a morse code meaning “AI Edition”. In fact, plans for a Manli Geforce RTX 4090 blower card had leaked in November 2022, without however leading to a launch.
Anyway, the CPU-Z capture shows the usual characteristics of the flagship of the Ada Lovelace line.
Performance, temperatures, nuisances
The acquirer provides some benchmark results. He notably tested his slightly overclocked GPU in 3DMark Time Spy and Time Spy Extreme. Graphic scores obtained: 36,956 points and 19,605 points respectively. The current averages are 35,979 points and 16,534 points for the GeForce RTX 4090; as much to say that this Blower version is quite at the level of the other references marketed.
The temperature readings show a peak of 96°C for the memory and 78°C for the GPU with the default fan curve. A custom curve reduces these values to 88°C and 67°C respectively.
The noise pollution is on the other hand very present according to the author, with rotation speeds exceeding 5000 rpm.
GeForce RTX 3090 blowers, but no GeForce RTX 4090
For the moment, no brand has officially launched GeForce RTX 4090 blower. However, many had done it for the GeForce RTX 3090. Let’s point out the Gigabyte and Asus GeForce RTX 3090 Turbo, the GALAX RTX 3090 Classic or even the MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Aero of which you can see a snapshot above. These graphics cards were particularly suitable for workstations and servers.
As of March 2021, NVIDIA partners suddenly stopped offering them. There has been no official statement on this subject, but it is likely that NVIDIA wanted to clear the way for its Quadro GPUs: professional cards, benefiting from adequate drivers, but which also cost more than the GeForces. In short, it is unlikely that GeForce RTX 4090 blowers will be marketed.
