Apocalypse Z returns to Carcassonne on Saturday October 1st. Are you ready to survive a zombie attack by having to solve puzzles and carry out missions on an unknown course in the middle of the night? We will see.
“The future of the world will be in your hands. You will have to escape the zombies (Z), solve temporal paradoxes and find a way to eradicate the epidemic. Let adrenaline, mutual aid and resourcefulness come together to to reach the finish without being contaminated!” When there are no more, there are still some! The undead will once again sweep the city in a few days. And to survive, uninfected people will have to be extra vigilant and join forces. As they did in 2018 for the first Carcassonne edition of Apocalypse Z, a life-size role-playing game during which participants, divided into small teams, must make their way through an urban universe infested with zombies.
This event – supported by the Narbonne association The Kmeleon – is not its first attempt. In 2023, the event will celebrate its tenth anniversary. This year will mark its third visit to the medieval city with, along the way, some small modifications. Because if in 2018, everything had gone like clockwork, last year, The Kmelon had to change its tune due to the health crisis. Faced with the vagueness that the epidemic has caused for the actors of the event, the volunteers of the association had to look for another way to exist. And had found it, by embarking on the creation of a mini-series, part of which had been shot in Carcassonne.
Apocalypse Z therefore returns on October 1 to its initial formula: a role-playing game with dozens and dozens of zombies and hundreds of survivors. Indeed, the event can accommodate up to 600 participants (limited places). “For Carcassonne, we created a scenario around the medieval universeexplains Gaëlle Girard, the director of the association, without revealing more. Via our site, participants only have to choose a meeting time. After the administrative procedures, they are released on a course of an average of 4 to 6 km. It’s up to them to survive until the finish…” To keep the suspense, the meeting place will be communicated 24 hours before the day of the event by email.
There are roles for everyone
It is also possible to participate in the event by going behind the scenes: joining the organization team, embodying a character, participating in make-up or helping with logistics. On this side, the experience is free but again, places are limited. “To give them a unique experience, we have a team of volunteers of around 150 actors, including supervisors, “scientists”, reception. There really are roles for everyone. If someone one is passionate about make-up and would like to test zombie make-up, so join us! Amateurs and enthusiasts are welcome”adds Gaëlle Girard.
If, for lack of places, the date of Carcassonne is not accessible to you, a new edition of Apocalypse Z is planned a few weeks later at our neighbors Haut-Garonne, in Plaisance-du-Touch, on October 29.
