CAF initiates the usual procedure

The Organizing Committee of CHAN initiated the usual procedure by seizing the competent judicial body of CAF about the absence of Morocco.

The Algeria 2022 African Nations Championship is being played without Morocco, the two-time defending champion. The Algerian authorities did not react positively to the request made by the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF) through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to travel to Constantine via a direct flight, operated by RAM, from Rabat.

Following this absence, the CHAN Organizing Committee met on Monday, January 16 in Algiers, in accordance with the rules of the competition.

On this occasion, it was decided “that Group C will be composed of three teams (Ghana, Sudan and Madagascar) with the direct consequence of the qualification of the first two teams for the knockout phase”, indicates the football governing body. African in a press release.

The Organizing Committee of CHAN also initiated the usual procedure by seizing the competent judicial body of CAF about the absence of Morocco during the match scheduled for Sunday in Constantine against Sudan.

As a reminder, the FRMF was informed on December 22, 2022 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), as the body in charge of the organization of CHAN, that an authorization in principle had been obtained following its request for authorization for a direct RAM flight from Rabat to Constantine.

On the basis of this authorization in principle, the FRMF communicated the details of the plan and the coordinates of the flights of the Moroccan selection in order to obtain the final authorization for the RAM flight from Rabat to Constantine and continued the preparation of the trip and the participation of the Moroccan national team in CHAN, in particular the preparation camp at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé from 6 to 10 January during which two friendly matches against Ethiopia were played.

However, the final authorization for the RAM flight from Rabat to Constantine never arrived.
