The President of the Republic of Liberia, George Weah, speaking during his participation in the 14th edition of the MEDays Forum 2022 last November.

George Weah goes straight to the point by declaring, clearly, his support for Morocco’s candidacy for the organization of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) 2025. In this communiqué published on the website of the Liberian executive, the president of Liberia has denied rumors that he would support the Algerian candidacy. He claimed to be “fully and strongly” for Morocco.

President Weah explained that his country approves and fully supports the Moroccan candidacy, highlighting “the continuous commitments and projects initiated by Morocco to raise African football to a higher level”.

For the former striker, the fourth place won by the Moroccan selection at the 2022 World Cup also legitimizes the hosting of CAN 2025 by the Kingdom of the Atlas Lions.

George Weah even said he had already started campaigning for Morocco with football players across the continent.

The choice of the host country of the CAN 2025 should be announced on February 10 on the sidelines of the Club World Cup that Rabat and Tangier will host from February 1 to 11.

In addition to Morocco, Algeria is a candidate as well as Zambia and the Nigeria-Benin duo.
