Energy mix: 37% of the electricity produced in 2021 comes from renewable energies

37% of the electricity produced in 2021 comes from renewable energies. This was revealed by the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) in its electricity report for the year 2021. According to the report, these green energies made it possible to produce a total of 4,067 megawatts (MW) of electricity in 2021, for a total of 10,968 MW of installed power over the whole year. According to the office, the contribution of renewable energies to meeting national demand, excluding hydropower, had reached 17.1% at the end of 2021 compared to 16% in 2020.

Concretely, the installed capacity for electricity of solar origin was 1,466 MW last year, that of wind power was around 831 MW. The installed power from hydraulic plants and WWTPs (pumped energy transfer stations) amounted to 1,770 MW, the same level as in 2020, specifies ONEE. These results are encouraging and are part of the national energy strategy, the objective of which is to increase the share of renewable energies in the electricity mix to 52% by 2030.
