Placed under the High Patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, the 19th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) paid a special tribute on Friday evening to Indian actor Ranveer Singh.
During this tribute ceremony, marked by the presence of the most brilliant stars of national, Arab and international cinema, as well as personalities from the world of art, culture and the media, Bollywood star Ranveer Singh expressed his thanks to the Festival Foundation, before receiving the Gold Star awarded to him by the advisor to the President of the Foundation, Mélita Toscane du Plantier.
The Indian actor did not fail to express his joy at being present in Marrakech as well as his love for his admirers of the ocher city who welcomed him in a warm and festive atmosphere.
The Asian star felt that this tribute will serve as motivation to continue to present more innovative and creative works in the future, expressing his pride in representing Bollywood cinema on the occasion of this great cinematic event.
“Today we are celebrating a great actor, with a strong original personality”, welcomed Mélita Toscane du Plantier in a speech preceding the presentation of the Gold Star to the Indian star, noting that around twenty films in a decade helped transform all of Indian popular cinema. “Self-taught, complete outsider, Ranveer Singh has become one of the most popular icons and a celebrity far beyond India’s borders,” she added.
And to continue that an important part of his personality as an actor was built “in front of the camera of a master, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the director of the famous Devdas” who made him a star in three films.
On this occasion, Mrs Toscane du Plantier evoked the FIFM’s experience with Indian cinema and Bollywood stars, in particular those who participated in previous editions of the festival and who are, each time, welcomed by the Moroccan public who are still as enthusiastic and keen. During the ceremony, clips from Ranveer Singh’s most prominent films were screened to the acclaim of the audience.
After the tribute ceremony, the Marrakchis had an appointment with the Indian star at the Jemaa El Fna square. One of India’s greatest actors today, Ranveer Singh has become one of the subcontinent’s most popular youth icons, and a celebrity far beyond its borders.
This highly talented actor refuses to be pigeonholed, both in his choice of roles, his eccentric taste in clothing and his hilarious sense of humor.
Since his childhood, he has wanted to embody the quintessence of the hero of Indian films. After a difficult start, he managed to impose himself thanks to a first role in Band Baaja Baaraat which was very successful and launched his career.
Ranveer Singh stands out as one of the most gifted actors of his generation, thanks in particular to his roles in “Simmba”, “Gully Boy”, “Goliyon Ki”, “Rasleela”, “Ram-Leela”, “Bajirao Mastani” and the magnificent “Padmaavat”.
True to its desire to celebrate world cinema in its diversity, the 19th edition of the FIFM, alongside Bollywood star Ranveer Singh, will pay tribute to three other eminent personalities from the world of the 7th art in recognition of their remarkable artistic and professional careers. .
These include the famous Scottish actress Tilda Swinton, the great American director James Gray and the pioneer of Moroccan cinema, director Farida Benlyazid.
