Foxconn: responsible for the production of the iPhone replaced

Change of important role within Foxconn, the main subcontractor of Apple. Wang Charng-yang has been replaced by Michael Chiang as head of iPhone production, reports Bloomberg.

According to the sources of the news agency, this replacement is not related to major disturbances experienced by Foxconn factories last year. The Taiwanese company would like to promote a new generation of leaders to better defend itself against growing competition and to better diversify its production sites.

Nevertheless, Michael Chiang would have played an important role during the riots that broke out last November in Zhengzhouthe world’s largest iPhone factory, talking to local authorities and making sure Apple’s demands are honored.

Michael Chiang joined Foxconn in 1999. He contributed to the implementation of internal procedures that meet Apple standards. In a 2021 interview, he revealed that a production line for Chinese Android smartphones needed 100 workers, compared to 1,200 workers on an iPhone production line.
