Vincenzo Griffin underlined how proud he feels to represent the Italian national team after his electric performance against Albania.
The 29-year-old winger, who has spent his entire club career in Germany, played 77 minutes in Wednesday’s friendly against Albania, where he proved his qualities on the international stage. Grifo scored two goals and provided the assist for giovanni di lorenzoequalized, setting up a perfect evening for the Italian.
Speaking to TMW, Grifo first discussed his solid form and how Italy’s game went against Albania.
“Definitely a good time. The hat-trick against Union Berlin last week, now the national team’s double. I always thank the team, they always liked me and without teammates you can’t score those goals.
“Especially the first, Raspadori saw me and provided the assist. We are doing pretty well, Albania are a good team and have a lot of strength.
“I’m happy, it’s always a source of pride to wear these colors for an Italian living in Germany. There is nothing greater than playing for the national team, especially with players like Bonucci or Verratti, they are great players. I am very happy.”
He commented on how it felt to miss the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.
“I thank the coach because he gave me the opportunity four years ago to be part of this team. Then in football there are good times and bad times but we are professionals and I am very happy to be here.
He spoke about his goals for the future after returning to the Azzurri team.
“I want to give my best and do well the way I do. I am very happy.”
The 29-year-old asked if he would like to play in Serie A after so many years plying his trade in Germany.
“I am very happy in Fribourg, we are doing well, we are second in the standings and we hope to continue like this. So everyone knows that I love Italian colors, that I’m Italian with an Italian passport and at home we speak Italian.
“I am 100% Italian. But I’m doing well in Fribourg, we hope to continue this great season.
Finally, Grifo confirmed that he had the chance to move to Serie A in the past.
“Certainly, but now I’m doing well in Freiburg and I want to give everything.”
