When designing an electronic assembly, hardware engineers must hand over to signal integrity specialists to carry out tests and simulations, a phase that can take several days and even several weeks. To reduce this bottleneck and avoid round trips, Keysight Technologies now offers a signal integrity simulation software tool called EP-Scan (electrical performance scan), with which design engineers are likely to detect and correct problems upstream. EP-Scan automatically provides comparisons between different electromagnetic simulations corresponding to successive versions of the assembly.
From the layout and substrate data of the ODB++ printed circuit, EP-Scan performs simulations concerning the impedance and delays of signal lines, return and insertion losses or even impedance time domain reflectometry. EP-Scan is available in Windows and Linux version, with the possibility to evaluate the software for free.
