Maghreb-Orient Express – Samar Yazbek, DuOud (Smadj, Mehdi Haddab), Issam Kamal

Samar Yazbek, DuOud (Smadj, Mehdi Haddab), Issam Kamal

She chooses literature to expose the unspeakable and tragedies. For the past ten years, Samar Yazbek has lived far from her native Syria, where she documented the first hours of the revolution in 2011. “La Demeure du vent” (Stock editions) tells the story of a soldier of the Syrian army who remembers different episodes of his life.

After “Casa-Paris”, in duet with Alice Cat Designer, Issam Kamal releases “Le Fond”, a title in French which he had dreamed of for a long time. After Morocco, where he popularized his Metiss’Pop style as leader of the Mazagan group, he is now setting out to conquer the French-speaking market. On February 5, 2023, he presented excerpts from the album he was preparing on the stage of the Apollo Theater in Paris.

Montreal, Lisbon, Paris… DuOud, alias Smadj and Mehdi Haddab, pioneers of electro-rock oud, electrified the New Morning. Their latest album, “Menshen”, mixes North African, Western and Far Eastern influences. “Menshen” refers to the guardians of the threshold in traditional Chinese culture, a memorable memory of their last tour in China.
