Michael Jackson biopic to be directed by Antoine Fuqua

Director Antoine Fuqua will helm the biopic dedicated to the life of Michael Jackson. Produced by Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody) and scripted by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator), the film is made in collaboration with the heirs of the King of Pop.

The long-awaited Michael Jackson biopic now has a director. The life of the King of Pop, who died in 2009 after marking the history of music, will be brought to the screen by filmmaker Antoine Fuqua. We recently owe him “Emancipation”, a film on slavery inspired by a true story, with Will Smith in the title role. He is also behind the feature film “The Training Day” (2001) which earned Denzel Washington an Oscar.

The 57-year-old director shared his excitement about taking on the project, which will trace the artist’s personal life as well as his most iconic performances.

Antoine Fuqua fan of Michael Jackson

“For me, there is no artist with the power, the charisma and the pure musical genius of michael jackson“, thus noted the director in a press release relayed by the American press. “I was influenced to make music videos by watching his work – the first black artist to play on MTV on repeat. His music and these images are part of my vision of the world, and the possibility of telling his story on screen alongside his music was irresistible,” continued Antoine Fuqua.

And to specify moreover: “The first films of my career were music videos, and I always have the feeling that combining film and music is an integral part of who I am”.

The film written by John Logan – author of the scripts for “Gladiator”, “The Aviator” or even “Skyfall”, will be produced by John Logan, a regular at biopics. He is notably at the origin of the film “Bohemian Rhapsody” on the life of Freddie Mercury and his group Queen.

For the time being, the film simply titled “Michael” does not yet have a release date and it is not yet known who will take on the role of the King of Pop.
