Montreal-du-Gers: the Flame of Armagnac stops over for three days

As the season for distilling white wine into eau-de-vie has begun, the Flamme de l’Armagnac is stopping off in Montréal-du-Gers for three days with a rich program.

When the harvest is over, it’s time to light the flame under the stills. Several activities are planned for this weekend in Montreal-du-Gers as part of the Flamme de l’Armagnac. It begins this Friday, November 18 at the tourist office where a workshop “Armagnac and chocolate pairings” offers to discover the possible associations, between the precious nectar and the refined dish that is chocolate, in order to highlight the aromas. Following, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Virginie from Pâtisserie Garnier Cyril and Christian Aubry, producer of Armagnac, will introduce and taste their products to all the participants. From 4 p.m., a masterclass “All about Armagnac” will reveal the secrets of the oldest eau-de-vie in France. A one-hour session led by the Bureau National Interprofessionnel de l’Armagnac (BNIA).

Between hikes and tastings

The following day, Saturday November 19, two hikes for cyclists, as well as two hikes for walkers, departing from Castelnau-d’Auzan, at 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., are planned. At the same time, for those who prefer tastings, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., three Montreal winegrowers will offer to show their products free of charge to all curious people: these are the Domaine de la Haille, the Domaine de Maubert and the Château by Lassalle Baque. Of course, at 7:30 p.m., in the multimedia room, the gastronomic meal will be served, hosted by the banda des Kanari’s. Before a dancing evening with the Rémi Sallard Orchestra. A firefight will close the evening.

Finally, on Sunday November 20, from 9 a.m., a 10-kilometre hike around the bastide town of Montréal-du-Gers will criss-cross the Armagnac vineyards. For lunch, all the restaurants in the village have prepared gourmet menus.
