The Atlas Handball Lions were defeated on Monday, January 23, by North Macedonia on behalf of the third and final day of the qualifying tournament for the 2023 World Championship.
Noureddine Bouhaddioui’s men were no match for more enterprising opponents, and lost the heavy score of 40-25.
They thus suffer their second defeat in the President’s Cup bringing together the teams eliminated from the group stage.
Previously, the Atlas Lions were beaten by Tunisia (25-30) and won against Algeria (28-27).
In the group stage of the World Cup, the national team was defeated three times: in front of the United States (27-28), Egypt (19-30) and Croatia (24-36).
With five defeats in six games, for a single victory, the national team thus left the tournament by the back door, not without having disappointed both handball enthusiasts and observers in Morocco, and aroused harsh comments.
