Morocco: tourist receipts explode

Tourism receipts amounted to some 36.7 billion dirhams at the end of last July, according to the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF), a sharp increase of 179.1% compared to last year’s figures.

In its economic report, the DEPF indicates that this improvement is due, among other things, to the reopening of national borders, noting that the recovery rate compared to the figures before the health crisis has reached nearly 89%.

Regarding the number of tourist arrivals during the months of June and July, this stood at 3.2 million arrivals, almost the same figure as before the crisis (3.4 million) . Guest nights, meanwhile, amounted to 6.2 million, up 128.9% year-on-year from last year, but still a far cry from 2019 figures.

The good figures seem to be confirmed for the month of July with an increase of some 18% compared to July 2019 after a 39% increase in June.
