Nicolas Dufourcq proposed to be reappointed as head of Bpifrance

The current director general of the public bank will begin a new five-year term if his appointment is validated in Parliament.

The Elysée on Tuesday proposed to renew for a third term Nicolas Dufourcq at the head of the public investment bank Bpifrancea position he has held for 10 years. “The President of the Republic plans, on the proposal of the Prime Minister, to appoint Mr. Nicolas Dufourcq as Managing Director of the public limited company Bpifrance”according to the press release from the Elysée.

“The President of the National Assembly and the President of the Senate are seized of this draft appointment, so that the interested committee of each of the assemblies decides”he says. Nicolas Dufourcq will begin a new five-year term if his appointment is validated in Parliament. Aged 59, the CEO of Bpifrance has embodied, since its beginnings in 2013, the institution that has become a major player in financing, investment and support for start-ups and SMEs in France.

Appointed in 2013 by then President François Hollande, he had already seen his mandate renewed for the first time by Emmanuel Macron in 2018. This finance inspector, father of three children, had started his career at the Ministry of the Economy and of Finance, then to the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs in 1992. He then joined France Telecom, where he created the multimedia division, before chairing Wanadoo, the group’s internet and yellow pages subsidiary. Then he moved to the IT services group Capgemini, where he became number two.

Bpifrance is 50% owned by the French state and 50% by the Caisse des dépôts (CDC), at the head of which the managing director Eric Lombard was reappointed in January. The group with the yellow and black logo is the result of the merger of four existing public entities (Oséo, CDC Entreprises, FSI and FSI regions) and took over in 2017 the export insurance services previously managed by Coface.
