Canada beat Japan 2-1 on Thursday in Dubai in its last friendly match in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, on a late goal from Lucas Cavallini.
Japan opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Yuki Soma, before Steven Vitoria equalized in the 21st minute following a corner given by Junior Hoillet. In the 93rd, Vancouver striker Lucas Cavallini converted a penalty following a foul by Miki Yamane on Richie Laryea.
In Qatar, Canada, which will play its first World Cup since 1986, will compete on November 23 against Belgium in Group F, where Croatia and Morocco also play.
Japan will play their first match on the same day against Germany, before meeting Spain and Costa Rica in the very tough Group E.
