No, a new version of the PlayStation 5 has not been released. Truth be told, it wasn’t even announced by Sony. But that does not prevent some players from being disappointed. Welcome to the internet.
This “new” PlayStation 5, we already told you about it last year. Technically identical to the two versions that we already know (with or without Blu-Ray reader), this new model would be distinguished by a more or less useful accessory: a removable Blu-Ray reader.
This project, revealed by Insider Gaming, would allow the two versions to be mixed, without however being a PS5 Slim or a PS5 Pro. Already being tested by a few developers, the console “would work great”, if we are to believe the first returns. So why are players disappointed? Well, quite simply because this removable drive cannot be connected to the current PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
Did you opt for the driveless version of the PlayStation 5 when it was released (or when stocks were more or less correct)? You will not be able to add this player to it. A real false problem, to tell the truth, except for the few customers who fell back on a PS5 Digital Edition because the version with disc reader was absent from the shelves.
But even then, it’s hard to blame Sony, which has always been clear about the distinction between the two models. As for why this removable drive (which, let’s remember, has still not been confirmed) can’t be plugged into an already existing PS5, we’ll know soon enough. At least if the rumor is true…
