The 11th edition of the Maghreb Film Festival of Oujda, organized by the Ciné-Maghreb Association, will be held from October 7 to 12 under the theme “The image and the imagination in cinema”.
This festival, placed under the high patronage of King Mohammed VI, aims to contribute to the enrichment of the Maghreb artistic scene and to strengthen the links between peoples and cultures, indicates a press release from the organizers.
This edition will bring together directors, producers, actors, critics and film professionals, with the main objectives of participating in the democratization of access to cinema, the development of the film industry in Morocco and in the countries of the Maghreb and the celebration of cinematographic art on an international scale, adds the press release.
About twenty films will be screened during this edition as part of the official feature and short film competitions and out of competition.
The feature film competition jury will be chaired by Burkinabe filmmaker Ardiouma Soma and will be made up of Algerian director Bachir Derrais, Tunisian director Fatima Cherif, Moroccan director Fatima Boubekdi and Egyptian journalist Medhat Hassan.
The short film jury will be led by Tunisian film critic Kamal Ben Ounas, Mauritanian professor-researcher Ahmed Maouloud Al Hilal, Senegalese actress Seyni Diop “Zeyna”, Canadian filmmaker Moness Rizkalla and Moroccan actress Salwa Zarhane .
In addition, the festival will pay tribute to Syrian actress Joumana Mourad, actor, director and member of the group Jil Jilala Hamid Zoughi, poet Sameh Derouich and other figures from the world of cinema and the arts.
The program for this event includes round tables, conferences, master classes and workshops, including an inaugural lesson on the image and imagination of cinema.
