The Moroccan athletes participating in the 6th edition of the International Moulay El Hassan para-athletics meeting organized from September 15 to 17 at the Grand Stade in Marrakech, shone with a thousand lights by succeeding in beating two world para-athletics records.
Thus, the Champion Ayoub Sadni pulverized the world record of the 400 M – T47 (Men) by covering this distance in “46 s 93”, while his compatriot Zakaria Derham broke the world record of the shot put -F33 in throwing 12.38 meters.
At the same time, several Moroccan athletes managed to achieve the qualifying minimum for the World Championship (World Para-Athletics) – Paris 2023.
At the level of the final table of medals, Morocco finished in 3rd position with its assets some 48 medals, including 10 in gold, 16 in silver and 22 in bronze.
Brazil dominated this meeting and climbed the first step of the podium, obtaining a total of 36 medals, including 20 gold, 13 silver and 3 bronze, followed in 2nd position by Iran with 26 medals (13 gold , 7 in silver and 6 in bronze).
For its part, Namibia occupied the 4th place with 31 medals (9 in gold, 8 in silver and 14 in bronze), while Tunisia was awarded the 5th position with 10 medals, including 8 in gold, 1 in silver and the same in bronze.
In a statement to M24, the continuous news television channel of MAP, the technical director of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPH), Said Mrini, indicated that this sporting event of international scope was a success on all fronts, indicating that 3 para-athletics world records were broken, including two by the Moroccan champions.
And to continue that the best events were scheduled for the last day of this meeting, which allowed the members of the Moroccan delegation to win many medals, which show that these athletes, young and veterans, have made a lot of progress.
However, Mr. Mrini pointed out that the non-participation of the blind and visually impaired had a negative impact on the results of the Moroccan delegation, since a large number of events were unfavorable for Morocco and beneficial to Brazil, a team that was very tough during this meeting.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 6th edition of the international meeting Moulay El Hassan of para-athletics, is part of the series of Grands Prix, under the aegis of World Para Athletics.
Organized by the FRMSPH, in partnership with the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, this sporting event saw the participation of around 400 athletes representing 40 African, Asian, European and American countries, in addition to management of more than 105 referees.
