Deeply moved, Celine Dion announces to her fans that she has a rare neurological disease.
“I have had health issues for a long time and it’s not easy for me to deal with them. It saddens me enormously to have to tell you that I will not be ready to start my tour in Europe again in February, said Celine Dion. I always give 100% in my concerts, but right now I’m in no condition to do so. I have no choice but to focus on my health, and I am hopeful that I am on the right track”.
A disease that affects the vocal cords
Affecting around one in a million people, Moersch-Woltman syndrome is an autoimmune disease characterized by progressive muscle stiffness and recurrent episodes of painful muscle spasms in the lower back, abdomen and/or legs. It impacts the way a person walks and their balance, making them weak and vulnerable to falls.
“Unfortunately, these spasms affect all aspects of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulty when I walk,” explains Céline Dion, who clarified that her condition had an impact on her way of singing. “It doesn’t allow me to use my vocal cords to sing like I’m used to,” she says.
The singer claims to consult her doctors on a regular basis, in particular a therapist specializing in sports medicine.
Celine Dion has repeatedly canceled her shows for health reasons. In January 2022, she had to cancel concerts in North America because of her severe and persistent muscle spasms which incapacitate her and prevent her from moving on stage.
